D-Day Memories: Carter and d'Estaing at Omaha Beach Cemetery

President Carter, standing beside France's President Valery Giscard d'Estaing, covered his face in respectful silence during D-Day memorial services at the Omaha Beach cemetery. Grandy was denied access to the two presidents by the White House but managed, with persistence, to crawl through the woods to the beach where he got this shot. 5 January 1978.
