Napalm Bomb Dropped in Germany

German press photographers inspected an unexploded napalm bomb that was dropped by a U. S. Air Force F-84 fighter bomber. L to r: Albert Riethausen of The Associated Press, Ernst Lechner of ACME, Heinz Goettert of Deutsche Press Agentur and Karl Heinz 'Mickey' Bohnacker of International News Service. One of two bombs dropped in a run to demonstrate fire power, this one overshot its intended target—an old Churchill tank 1500 feet away from the photographers—and landed instead about 30 feet from them, with the jelly-like napalm splashing right up to their feet. Luckily, it did not burst into flames as the first one had and they lived to tell of it. 2 April 1951.
