NORTH COUNTRY PUBLIC RADIO ADDS ANOTHER SERVICE AREA (1/18/02)

North Country Public Radio has installed a new transmitter to serve communities in southern Lewis County. The 13 watt signal, broadcasting at 89.1 FM, is licensed to Lyons Falls and located at the South Lewis Junior-Senior High School in Turin.

The station, based in Canton, in St. Lawrence County, operates a network of repeater stations throughout the North Country. The format includes news and information programs from National Public Radio including All Things Considered and Morning Edition, spoken word and literature programs, and a wide variety of music including jazz, blues, folk and classical. The station's award-winning regional news broadcasts, features and interviews can be heard weekdays at 8:00am and Noon.

"We are again grateful to the Pratt-Northam Foundation for their help in extending the service range of public radio," said North Country Public Radio Station Manager Ellen Rocco. "We hope that the station will be a friendly companion and trustworthy resource for all our new listeners." The Pratt-Northam Foundation provided a significant gift to support the installation of the facility.
