NCPR Airs Award-Winning Series (7/22/02)

North Country Public Radio will broadcast The DNA Files, a special 5-part documentary series about new developments in genetic science, Thursday evenings at 7:00 PM, eginning July 25th. Hosted by award-winning journalist John Hockenberry, the programs offer in-depth exploration of scientific and ethical issues, the Human Genome Project, the origin of life, viruses and DNA, the process of how and why humans age, and more.

The special series has already received the Peabody/Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Award for Excellence in Health and Medical Communication. The award was established four years ago to encourage more and better coverage of medical and health issues. A previous DNA Files series that aired on North Country Public Radio in 1998, won umerous awards, and received much critical acclaim from listeners. The DNA Files is distributed by National Public Radio. The hour-long documentaries pull together the talents of independent producers, scientists, and NPR staff to distill the river of DNA science and opinion into compelling radio.
