Public Radio Has Special 9/11 Coverage (9/5/02)

North Country Public Radio will broadcast special coverage leading up to the anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 9/11. The emphasis will be on exploring how America and Americans have changed in the past year. Titled "Understanding America after 9/11", the broadcasts will include a variety of programs from National Public Radio and independent producers, as well as local productions. In addition, the station will feature extensive reports and an opportunity for individuals to contribute their thoughts about the subject, via the North Country Public Radio website, <>.

The station's broadcasts will include:

Thursday, September 5th, 7 to 8pm - The Sonic Memorial Project (Lost and Found Sound) - An intimate and historic documentary marking the anniversary of 9/11 through stories, sound and archival audio. Produced by The Kitchen Sisters, and The Sonic Memorial Team.

Friday, September 6th, 7 to 8pm - Surviving Survival - Sound and Spirit host Ellen Kushner looks beyond tragedy to the survival of the spirit and the self, with a musical celebration of enduring human spirit in the face of suffering and loss.

Saturday, September 7th, 1 to 3pm - Living With Terror: The World Speaks a Year After 9/11 - Through collaboration between U.S. public radio stations and the BBC World Service, people around the world will be able to call toll-free, speak their minds, and hear other views on living with terrorism in a post-9/11 world.

Sunday, September 8th, 1 to 3pm - Living with Terror: America Speaks a Year After 9/11 - A national town meeting, with world participation via the BBC - an examination of the U.S. role in the world and why many abroad hate the U.S., whether a war on terrorism is the path to peace, and how heightened U.S. security may undercut the ideals of freedom and independence.

Monday, September 9th, 7 to 8pm - Speaking of Faith: The Spiritual Fallout of 9/11 - An exploration of uncomfortable religious and moral questions posed by the 9/11 attacks.

Tuesday, September 10th, 7 to 8pm - Regional Call-In with Martha Foley - Your turn to phone in with your comments about 9/11 --- Did it change the North Country, and where are we headed?

Wednesday, September 11th - Voices of Reflection - a day of special coverage from NPR, including live broadcasts from New York City and Washington, and a special live evening broadcast with Fred Child and Susan Stamberg, exploring the full range of American musical expression of 9/11.
