American Mavericks Premieres on North Country Public Radio (7/3/03)

American Mavericks is a compelling, thought-provoking 13-part series probing the legacies of iconoclastic, tradition-breaking composers who shaped the development of American music. The series explores the inspiration and creativity of musicians—from Charles Ives and Laurie Anderson to Aaron Copland and John Adams. You'll hear about Ellington, Zappa, Cage, Bernstein, Ives, and even the Beach Boys. This unique series, produced by Minnesota Public Radio and distributed by Public Radio International, is hosted by pop-folk icon Suzanne Vega. It airs on North Country Public Radio Sundays at 2:00 pm, July through September.

American Mavericks also offers an extraordinary website at www.musicmavericks.org for on-demand streams of both "smooth" and "crunchy" new music, visual analyses of sound, music art, videos both historic and quirky, and a virtual rhythmicon that you can perform on your web browser!
