North Country Public Radio has increased its service area to Jay, New York, broadcasting at 102.1 FM. Based in Canton, NY, North Country Public operates a network of more than 25 repeater stations throughout the Adirondack North Country. The format is commercial-free and includes a wide variety of programs from National Public Radio and Public Radio International including All Things Considered, Morning Edition, BBC World Update, Car Talk, Fresh Air, Performance Today and more. In addition, NCPR's award winning news team can be heard weekdays at 8:00 a.m. with regional news broadcasts, features and interviews. The station also airs an eclectic mix of locally-hosted music programs.
Funding for 102.1 was made possible by generous support from the Jay community and a grant from the Public Telecommunications Facilities Fund. "We gratefully acknowledge the Jay community and all of the individuals who made this facility possible," said North Country Public Radio Station Manager Ellen Rocco. "We feel certain that 102.1 will be a tremendous resource for all of our new listeners and are very excited to have a strong presence in Jay."
Station Manager Ellen Rocco, and other NCPR staff will celebrate the sign-on of the Jay transmitter at the Jay JEMS (Jay Entertainment & Music Society) Day, on the village green, Saturday, August 13. NCPR encourages people to stop by the festivities and meet station staff.
