North Country Public Radio’s UpNorth Music Invites Akwesasne Musicians to Apply for Free February Recording Sessions

Canton, New York, Friday, January 12, 2007 – North Country Public Radio invites musicians from Akwesasne to register online for a chance at a free recording session in February. A total of 9 slots are available February 15-17, with each musical act chosen receiving 2 hours of recording time as well as a $100 payment for their time. Participants will receive a professionally mixed CD of their recordings to use as they wish. They will also be eligible for broadcast and podcast appearances on North Country Public Radio. In order to be selected, musicians must register online at www.upnorthmusic.org. The station will contact musicians selected to schedule their recording session.

The recording sessions at Akwesasne will be the third stop on a year-long tour of North Country communities. These recording sessions are part of a major two-year project for which the station received funding from the New York State Music Fund, a grant program of Rockefeller Philanthropic Advisors. North Country Public Radio will set up temporary recording studios in each location on the tour. Local partners in UpNorth Music are St. Lawrence County Arts Council, Traditional Arts in Upstate New York, What A Raquette Music & Dance, and the Akwesasne Cultural Center. For complete information on this project visit www.upnorthmusic.org or contact project coordinator Jill Breit, jill@ncpr.org, 315-854-4974.
