NCPR reporter honored for agricultural writing

Canton NY, January 17, 2007. North Country Public Radio reporter David Sommerstein has been named the recipient of the 2006 "Cap" Creal Broadcast Journalism Award from the New York State Agricultural Society for his radio reports on dairy farming. "A Year on the Farm", a series of monthly features on all aspects of dairying that aired on the station in 2006 was cited by the judges for capturing in detail and vividness all aspects of dairying from cutting hay to breeding, feeding and caring for cows.

The award is named for Harold "Cap" Creal, a central New York farmer who was a member of the Agricultural Society and of the New York State Assembly in the 1930s and 40s. Sommerstein's agricultural reporting has also been previously honored with a Creal award.
