Finding the North Country: Stories of Local Life Through Photographs

October 7 - November 25, 2006
TAUNY Gallery, 2 West Main Street, Canton
Tuesday - Saturday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

This special exhibit of photographs capturing life in the region was on display at the Canton gallery of Traditional Arts in Upstate New York. "Finding the North Country: Stories of Local Life Through Photographs" brought together images of typical North Country activities, taken by people who live here. Each photograph was accompanied by a caption explaining the significance of the image - that is, telling its story. Together, the pictures and stories reflect which qualities and activities residents of this region think are characteristically "North Country": picking wild blueberries…snowmobiling…the county fair. Sample the exhibit in this audio slideshow.

This exhibit references and builds upon the series of radio programs TAUNY created and hosted with North Country Public Radio in 2000, called "Looking for the North Country," a discussion of North Country identity. Find those programs on the North Country Identity page.
