North Country Rivals Face Off in Potsdam

Listen to this story
Across North America, it's been a long, quiet winter for National Hockey League fans. But Division I college hockey has kept North Country fans in the action. Last Saturday night was one of the signature events of the season - the twice annual rivalry match between the St. Lawrence University Skating Saints and the Clarkson University Golden Knights. Neither team is having a stellar season. The Saints came into the game with an 11-9 record, but were riding a four-game winning streak. The Knights languished near the bottom of the ECAC at 6-13. But that didn't stop Canton and Potsdam faithful from packing Clarkson's Cheel Arena. David Sommerstein took his seat just as the game was about to start. The Clarkson Knight mascot literally jumped out of the zamboni, the lights dimmed low, and the players burst onto the ice... In the end, SLU clobbered Clarkson, 7-2.
