Cuomo unveils third lean budget
Albany, NY, Jan 23, 2013 — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo unveiled a $142 billion state budget, that includes federal aid for post-Superstorm Sandy recovery, and closes a $1.3 billion budget gap.
Gov. Cuomo, facing his third lean fiscal year as governor, closes that gap by holding spending flat for state agencies, which he estimates will save $434 million, and putting off a cost of living increase for health care providers, worth $412 million. Go to full article

Spending proposals could help North Country schools
Canton, NY, Jan 23, 2013 — Statewide education leaders are giving Governor Cuomo good marks for prioritizing education in his budget plan. His proposals add up to an average of $300 more per student in the state, and of this, some districts will get less per student, some will get more. Governor continues downsizing of state prison system
Albany, NY, Jan 23, 2013 — Governor Andrew Cuomo says New York's state prison system needs to shrink again. In his speech Tuesday, Cuomo unveiled plans to eliminate two downstate correctional facilities.
The move spares prisons and prison jobs here in the North Country, at least for the time being.
