Malone, NY, Dec 05, 2011 — A state Supreme Court judge issued a ruling late Friday that could dramatically reshape North Country political boundaries. The decision affects the way prison inmates are counted as state Assembly and Senate districts are drawn up.

Albany, NY, Oct 27, 2011 — Blogs lit up yesterday when Gov. Andrew Cuomo seemed to back away from his often repeated promise to veto new electoral district lines drawn by a special legislative task force. On public radio's Capitol Pressroom, he told host Susan Arbetter there could be a certain amount of chaos if he vetoes new electoral district lines due after the 2010 Census. The Albany Times Union's Capitol Confidential blog noted "chaos is not Cuomoian."
But later in the day, he renewed his veto pledge, in no uncertain terms. The governor told Albany reporter Karen DeWitt he intends to veto the redistricting lines now being devised by a joint legislative commission, because they are not independent and non partisan. Go to full article
