North Creek Soldier Killed in Baghdad

The mother of 31-year-old Kevin Kimmerly of North Creek has flown to a U.S. Amry base in Germany to be with the body of her son. Staff Sergeant Kimmerly was killed in Baghdad Monday when his vehicle was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade. He's the second soldier from the North Country to die in military service this month.  Go to full article

New APA Chairman Ross Whaley Confirmed By Senate

The Governor's choice to lead the Adirondack Park Agency was confirmed Tuesday by the state Senate. Ross Whaley, who lives in Tupper Lake, will take over chairmanship of the APA in October. State forest rangers and environmental conservation police are hunting two black bears near a popular campground in the Adirondacks. The decision to kill the bears follows an attack two weeks ago at Marcy Dam that left one woman lightly injured.
