Sports Illustrated: The Adirondacks Issue

It's been a banner winter for the Adirondacks. First NASA named a lumpy bit of rock on Mars after our state park. Then, last week, the Lake Placid Olympics were celebrated in a new Disney film about the legendary 1980 hockey tournament.
Now, the region is being featured in Sports Illustrated's new swimsuit issue, which appears on newsstands this week. The models and crew stayed at the Wawbeek Lodge on Upper Saranac Lake last summer. Environmentalists Slam Snowmobile Plan

Conservation groups are condemning a new snowmobile plan proposed for the Adirondack Park. At a hearing last night in Albany, environmentalists argued that the proposed corridor system would mean construction of new 12-foot-wide roads in the Park -- a violation the "forever wild" provision of the state constitution.
As Brian Mann reports, snowmobile advocates say this opposition from "green" groups reflects a growing bias against motorized recreation.  Go to full article
