Conditions ideal for snocross races

Finally, a winter activity that should go off as scheduled. Organizers of the Rock Maple Extreme Snocross Snowmobile Races say they expect to have the best racing conditions of the season this weekend at Champlain Valley Exposition. CVE spokesman Tom Oddy says crews have been making snow for a week and using bulldozers to sculpt the mountains of snow into a twisting and turning snocross track.  Go to full article

North Country tourism could take a hit from new passport rules

The 'Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative' went into effect yesterday. That's the official name of the new legislation requiring passports to enter or leave the U-S. The regulation does apply to Canada and Mexico, too. Right now, passports are only required for those traveling by air. Fluctuating temperatures raise concerns over farming

Temperatures this winter have left a lot of people wondering... December's 70-degree days caused flowers to bloom - but also contributed to concerns over global warming. This week's cold snap - reassuring to some - has raised new questions about the health of the North Country's ecosystem.
