American Solstice explores an emotional narrative. It touches on themes like loss, childhood and wanderlust — ranging from the beginning of my photographic studies to some form of self-realization that coincided with the birth of my daughter. The images are fleeting, layered in experience, in meaning and memory for me.
My high school girlfriend, the heartbreak, days on the road, watching the countryside fade and witnessing another's pain for the first time. Learning how to feel. Homemade porno tapes from the clown house, rappers getting high, Jessica Simpson launching her shoe line, my younger brother growing older, the hangover after celebrating my daughter's birth. These are my experiences, laid out for you to create whatever narrative you wish.
