Dec 2, 2010 — Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) was censured Thursday by fellow members of the United States House of Representatives for financial and fundraising misconduct.Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) was censured Thursday by fellow members of the United States House of Representatives for financial and fundraising misconduct.
The 80-year-old Rangel, who has served in the House for 40 years, said the vote against him of 333-79 was hard to accept.
Censure is the most serious punishment the House can mete out, other than expulsion. The vote marked only the 23rd time a member had been censured.
NPR Political Editor Ken Rudin has his take on Rangel over at It's All Politics, where he says: "It didn't have to end like this."
