College Football Champs: Auburn In A Close One
Auburn has something it's not seen since Dwight Eisenhower was in the White House: the winning college football team in the top division of the BCS. The Tigers defeated the University of Oregon last night, 22-19, on a field goal At The Very Last Moment. NPR's Tom Goldman tells NPR's Newscast that the collegiate championship was supposed to be a 'touchdown fest', because over the season, Auburn's Tigers and the Oregon's Ducks each averaged more than 40 points a game.
Tom explains it all for Morning Edition, including the nail-biting finish and why Auburn's defensive line is getting its well-deserved moment to shine. The AP's Anne M. Peterson and John Zenor agree.
