May 23, 2012 — The fallout from Facebook's initial public offering continues to spread, moving from trading screens to potentially the courtroom. Some of the investors who bought shares of the company filed a lawsuit alleging that Facebook and underwriter Morgan Stanley concealed information about Facebook's expected performance.
May 23, 2012 — Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton, Va., offers services not usually found in your average hospital. Not only is every one of its patient rooms a private one, it offers food cooked and delivered to order, and hand massages. But experts say it's the actual involvement of patients and families in their own care that sets it apart.
May 23, 2012 — The rule, instituted to improve sanitation, applies to bathrooms in tourist spots such as parks, railway stations, supermarkets and malls.
May 23, 2012 — In the past week, President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner have begun a new round of sparring over the U.S. debt ceiling. It's part of a number of problems involving debt, taxes and spending that are all slated to come to a head in early 2013. And solutions aren't likely before Election Day.
May 23, 2012 — The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force said the harms, such as false alarms and unnecessary surgeries that leave some men impotent and incontinent, outweigh the benefits of routine PSA blood testing for prostate cancer. But it's far from clear that doctors and their patients will heed the advice.

The Mix: Slow And Low Valentine Jams

by Bobby Carter
Feb 6, 2012 — Valentine's Day only comes once a year, so you might as well take it slow. Turn down the lights and turn up this 67-song mix of soul and lovers' rock, curated by NPR Music's resident DJ, Cuzzin B.

What is a slow jam? Is it any down-tempo ballad that speaks to the emotional ups and downs of a romantic relationship? Is it an R&B song about falling in love? How about a soul song that details exactly how badly the singer needs someone in his or her life? Do breakup songs count? Where does heartbreak figure in? What about beats per minute? Or is the determination more about when and where (and with whom) you listen to the song in question?

We know a few things, to be sure. It would not be a slow-jam mix without D'Angelo or SWV's "Weak." Gerald Levert is a hero. Teddy Pendergrass, Lenny Williams and Chico Buarque are titans in this field. Tony Toni Tone. Anita Baker. Keith Sweat. Oh, it's on.

You could debate the definition of a slow jam for hours, and are welcome to do so in the comments section below. Or you could click the listen link above, call your special someone and just see what happens.
