Mar 2, 2011 — The AP has crossed this tidbit from Hungary: Elvis Presley will be declared an posthumous honorary citizen of Budapest, Hungary. The city's mayor says it's to commemorate Presley's support for the anti-Soviet revolution of 1956.The AP has crossed this tidbit from Hungary: Elvis Presley will be declared a posthumous honorary citizen of Budapest. The city's mayor says it's to commemorate Presley's support for the anti-Soviet revolution of October 1956. From the AP:
On Jan. 6, 1957, during his last appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, Elvis sang a gospel standard, "Peace in Valley," which Sullivan said reflected the singer's preoccupation with Hungarians' plight after the uprising.
The city will also rename a landmark for Elvis. Twelve locations are under consideration and the public can vote for their favorite spot until March 15.
