Mar 21, 2011 — The 37-year-old Grammy winner said he was shot, but Haitian police say he was cut by glass.
Yesterday, the AP reported that hip-hop star Wyclef Jean ended up in a hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand. But Haitian police are saying he was just cut by glass.
Over the weekend, pictures of Wyclef and his bloody hand ricocheted across the internet and Jean, according to the New York Daily News, said a bullet grazed his hand on Saturday night:
"I heard blow, blow, blow and I just looked at my hand."
Jean said he was in a car with a driver in the Delmas section of the capital at the time. He doesn't know who fired the shots, or whether they were directed at him, the 37-year-old Grammy winner said.
The Los Angeles Times reports that Petionville Police Chief Vanel Lacroix told Reuters that police had talked to the doctors who treated Jean and they found he had just been cut by glass.
Jean was in Haiti for the presidential elections. He tried to run for president, until a court found him ineligible because he did not meet residency requirements. At the time of the incident, Jean was helping presidential candidate and musician Michel Martelly campaign.
