"Any time you get involved in any controversial issue, there's always going to be extremes that react," Rep. Peter King (R-NY) tells Politico about the bloody pig's foot and anti-Semitic note that someone reportedly mailed to his Washington, D.C., office.

King has been the center of controversy in recent weeks because his House Committee on Homeland Security convened a hearing on "Muslim Radicalization" in the United States. King assailed the "political correctness" of critics, some of whom said he was stereotyping Muslims and ignoring the greater threats posed by others — including white supremacists.

Capitol Police are investigating. The package was intercepted by mail screeners before it was delivered to King's office, The Associated Press says. Authorities told King about it on Monday.
