The Secret Service is now looking into the hacking of a Fox News Twitter account over the weekend and the posting of messages on it claiming that President Obama had been assassinated.

Meanwhile, the THiNK blog at Stony Brook University on New York's Long Island says it has exchanged e-mails with a representative of the group thought to be responsible for the hacking — The Script Kiddies. That person tells THiNK that "Fox News was selected because we figured their security would be just as much of a joke as their reporting."

Script Kiddies' Twitter account appears to have disappeared since this all happened.

Fox has issued a statement saying it has asked for "a detailed investigation from Twitter about how this occurred, and measures to prevent future unauthorized access into FoxNews.com accounts."

The messages were on the @foxnewspolitics Twitter page for about 10 hours before being removed around noon on Monday, The New York Times adds.
