Spirit Family Reunion On Mountain Stage

Dec 21, 2012

See this

Spirit Family Reunion is based in Brooklyn, but the band's sound is distinctly rural. Spirit Family Reunion refined its dusty, rustic sound by playing on streets and subway stations and at farmer's markets across New York City. Spirit Family Reunion brings the folk sounds of years past to vibrant, hollering life. After putting in their time on the road in a battered van, the members of Spirit Family Reunion recently secured a spot at the Newport Folk Festival. Spirit Family Reunion.

Spirit Family Reunion makes its first appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live at the historic Keith Albee Theater in Huntington, W.V., in partnership with the Marshall Artists Series.

Based in Brooklyn yet heavily influenced by old-time Appalachian string-band music, Spirit Family Reunion has already earned a spot at the Newport Folk Festival and toured with Alabama Shakes and the legendary Levon Helm. Comparisons to established acts like The Felice Brothers and Old Crow Medicine Show write themselves, but Spirit Family Reunion's five members have gone their own way, playing the streets and subway stations of New York City and taking their music on the road in a battered conversion van.

Banjo player Maggie Carson, fiddler Mat Davidson and guitarist Nick Panken share lead-vocal duties, and are joined by Stephen Weinheimer on washboard and Peter Pezzimenti on percussion.
