What's in a Song? 'Silver Bells'
Dec 25, 2005 (Weekend Edition Sunday) — "What's In a Song," the continuing series from the Western Folklife Center, takes a look at the origins of one of the hardiest of holiday perennials: "Silver Bells." It made its debut in a 1951 Bob Hope film, The Lemon Drop Kid.More than 2,100 different holiday music CD titles have been purchased this year, according to Billboard magazine.
From "O Tannenbaum" to "Jingle Bell Rock," many of the season's songs have endured multiple interpretations.
"What's In a Song," the continuing series from the Western Folklife Center, takes a look at one of the hardiest of perennials: "Silver Bells."
