A new generation of activists have used hip hop music and culture to get young people into politics.

But author John McWhorter has a new book — All About the Beat: Why Hip-Hop Can't Save Black America — which argues that hip hop provides hindrances, not help, to black America.

McWhorter is a Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research, a conservative think tank.
