May 24, 2013 — After a truck carrying a heavy load struck the side of a bridge that carries Interstate 5 over the Skagit River north of Seattle, the roadway collapsed. No one was killed. Dan Sligh and his wife were in a pickup. "You just hold on as tight as you can," he says of the fall they took.

Mar 22, 2013 — Law enforcement agencies in Washington state are having to make lots of adjustments as the state implements a ballot initiative that legalized the use of marijuana. One surprise change has been the need to re-train dogs used for sniffing out illegal drugs.

Dec 5, 2012 — Gay and lesbian couples can start picking up their wedding certificates and licenses Thursday. Last month, voters in Washington, Maine and Maryland voted to approve same-sex marriage, making them the first states where gay marriage has passed through popular vote.

Oct 3, 2012 — Washington state apple growers are harvesting the second-largest crop in history, but it appears there won't be enough workers to get the fruit off the trees quickly enough. The next few weeks are when the bulk of the region's fruit is picked. The labor shortage comes as apple prices are high.
Feb 8, 2012 — The move would make the state the seventh in the nation to allow same-sex couples to wed. Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire is expected to sign the measure into law next week. The vote comes a day after a federal appeals court ruled that California's ban on gay marriage was unconstitutional.

Feb 2, 2012 — By a 28-21 vote late Wednesday, the Washington State Senate approved a bill legalizing gay marriage in the state. The state House is expected to do the same next week and Gov. Christine Gregoire has said she will sign the legislation.
