Artists' models
Jan 12, 2013 — The belle epoque was not particularly belle if you were poor and female — like the young girl who modeled for Edgar Degas' famous sculpture, The Little Dancer, Aged 14. A new novel by Cathy Marie Buchanan tells the story of that girl, ballet student Marie van Goethem.
Dec 31, 2011 — Ellis Avery's novel The Last Nude imagines the hidden affair between art deco painter Tamara de Lempicka and her model Rafaela. From afar, the boldly colored paintings appear polished and cool-headed, but up close, Avery says, you can see they were created in a state of passion.
Mar 9, 2009 — Writer Kathleen Rooney supplements her income with gigs as a nude model. In her book, Live Nude Girl, she raises the philosophical and personal concerns of posing for art, and makes a distinction between nudity and nakedness.
Jun 14, 2006 — The delicate relationship between an art school teacher with a secret Nazi heritage and an Israeli artist's model is the focus of Blue Nude, the latest novel by Elizabeth Rosner. Veronique de Turenne offers a review.
