Mar 15, 2013 — A Maryland man who recently died had received a kidney transplant. Now, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it has determined that the donor had rabies and that the disease was transmitted to the Maryland man. Three other organ recipients are now receiving anti-rabies shots.

Aug 1, 2012 — Challenging the view that rabies is always fatal, scientists have discoverd a group of Peruvians who show signs of surviving rabies from vampire bats, despite never being vaccinated for the virus. The findings suggest that some people may become resistant to rabies after they're exposed to it over time.

Apr 12, 2012 — A bat got loose in the cabin of a Delta flight bound for Atlanta from Wisconsin last summer. After the plane returned to the airport, the bat escaped. Public health workers scrambled to find the passengers and make sure they hadn't been exposed to rabies.
