Birding With David Allen Sibley

All a birdwatcher needs, really, is a patch of the outdoors - or a window -- and something to sit on. Patience and binoculars help. But there ARE certain skills that earn SERIOUS birders treasured sitings of rare or shy species, and a deeper understanding of bird behavior. A couple of years ago, Martha Foley got an early morning lesson in the best practices from ornithologist and artist David Allen Sibley, author of the new series of Sibley bird books from the Audubon Society. Clinton Hails E-Commerce Project in Potsdam

Senator Hillary Clinton returned to the North Country this weekend. It was a rescheduled visit after plans last month were canceled when former President Bill Clinton had to undergo bypass surgery. Senator Clinton energized party faithful at the annual dinner of the St. Lawrence County Democratic Party Saturday night. During the day she visited Clarkson University in Potsdam, where she announced the expansion of an e-commerce program that helps local businesses market their products online. Pre-Election, It's Raining Grant Money

As election season hits its stride, the North Country is being showered with federal and state grant money. On the heels of announcements in Ogdensburg, Governor Pataki and Congressman John McHugh yesterday announced 9 North Country communities will share $4.5 million in federal housing funds. Also yesterday, McHugh announced the Department of Energy awarded Clarkson University $775,000 over three years to develop energy efficient building technology. And as David Sommerstein reports, the USDA will loan the River Hospital in Alexandria Bay $2.5 million.  Go to full article
