Good looking, great personality - heritage turkeys measure up

Brian and Ann Bennett raise heritage turkeys at their organic farm, Bittersweet Farm in St. Lawrence County. They also raise chickens, and regular big, white toms for the free-range, organic market. Heifer Project International provided the chicks for this experiment. Martha Foley talked with Brian Bennett yesterday morning as he was finishing up his turkey chores. He said he's got 40 to 50 heritage birds now. They've got personality, and they're smarter and healthier than their "commercial" cousins. His flock is a mixed group:  Go to full article

Soul food for the stomach and spirit

The growth of Fort Drum since the 1980s has had a profound cultural effect on the Watertown area. You can see it in the restaurants scattered outside the base. Thai food, Korean food, dixieland BBQ all serve their constituents. A new restaurant outside Fort Drum serves both African-American soul food and Puerto Rican Hispanic fare.
