Deploying Ft. Drum Soldiers Reflect on War & Peace
Mar 06, 2003 — More than 200,000 U.S. troops are positioned in the Persian Gulf, awaiting the word to begin a war against Iraq. A couple hundred of them are from Fort Drum Army base near Watertown. Another group of Fort Drum soldiers has received deployment orders to the Central Area of Command, which includes the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan. They're waiting for orders to depart. McHugh: Military May Be Stretched Too Thin
Feb 27, 2003 — North Country Congressman John McHugh says the U.S. military may be overcommitted, which is putting a strain on military personnel and their families. He expressed his concerns in a report to the House Armed Services Committee. McHugh chairs the Armed Services Subcommittee on military personnel. In January, he visited reservists and National Guard troops stationed in Europe.
