More Anxiety and Preparation at Ft. Drum

The light infantry of the 10th Mountain Division based at Fort Drum near Watertown played a combat role in Afghanistan last year. Many soldiers only returned from Central Asia six months ago. Fires at Fort Drum Continue Smoldering

Fires that have been smoldering since last week at Fort Drum are causing smoke problems for northern New York communities. The brush fires are in a remote 6-by-10-mile area used as the post's artillery range. The danger of unexploded shells is preventing firefighters from getting into the area.
