20-25 foot waves forecast for Lake Ontario

High winds are forecast to whip up huge waves on Lake Ontario.

Senior Chief Craig Ross, officer in charge at the U.S. Coast Guard station in Oswego, says his crew is preparing to respond to emergencies. He says forecasters are predicting a big storm surge. "They're expecting 20 to 25 foot waves, concentrating on the eastern shore of Lake Ontario," Ross says. "They're also expecting possible lakeshore flooding and heavy rain and heavy wind."

The Coast Guard is urging boat owners to pull their craft from the water if at all possible.  Go to full article

Hurricane Sandy: why don't some people heed weather warnings?

During Governor Cuomo's briefing on Hurricane Sandy Monday morning, he emphasized the need for people in evacuation areas to leave when they're advised to.

Hurricane Sandy: Local, state officials scramble to prepare

Local governments and state officials scrambled through the weekend to prepare for the potentially devastating impacts of Hurricane Sandy.

Damaging winds and flood-level rains are expected to reach the North Country by mid-afternoon today.
