Drum Troops Deploy; Schumer Urges Military Support
Mar 11, 2003 — Some 250 active duty and reserve soldiers departed from Fort Drum yesterday for an undisclosed destination in the Central Area of Command, which includes the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan. They're from the Army's 883rd Medical Company and the 511th Military Police. New York Senator Charles Schumer was there to see them off. Deploying Ft. Drum Soldiers Reflect on War & Peace
Mar 06, 2003 — More than 200,000 U.S. troops are positioned in the Persian Gulf, awaiting the word to begin a war against Iraq. A couple hundred of them are from Fort Drum Army base near Watertown. Another group of Fort Drum soldiers has received deployment orders to the Central Area of Command, which includes the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan. They're waiting for orders to depart. For some it will be their first time overseas. Others are combat veterans who fought Al-Qaeda forces last year in Afghanistan. David Sommerstein recently talked with some of them. Go to full article
