May 22, 2013 — The Treasury Department's inspector general, who faulted the IRS for flagging conservative groups for extra scrutiny, is now investigating how the agency is monitoring the political activities of tax-exempt groups. Lewis County Approves Canadian Pharmacy

Lewis County is joining a growing number of communities seeking to save money by buying prescription drugs from Canada. Lawmakers unanimously approved a plan to allow county employees to buy drugs from a pharmacy near Windsor, Ontario, called CanaRx. David Sommerstein spoke Bruce Krug, who chairs Lewis County's legislature. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says governments can't reimport drugs from Canada. But Krug says individuals can.  Go to full article

SUNY Seeks Additional State Funds

The State University of New York will seek an increase in funding in Governor Pataki's budget next year. SUNY officials say the increase is needed just to maintain the current offering of classes and other services to students. Karen DeWitt reports.  Go to full article

Sorting Out Land Claim, Casino Deals

In the past month, Governor Pataki has announced four deals with native tribes to resolve land claims and build casino resorts in the Catskills. Three of those agreements are with tribes from outside New York. A fifth casino deal could pop up if the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe approves a proposed land claim settlement. The deals push the number of casino plans beyond the number approved by the legislature. The Governor wants the legislature to accommodate the new plans.
