Local Reaction To Marriage Ruling: Shock, Sadness

Amish Consider Future Of Cheese Plant
Jul 06, 2006 — Amish dairy farmers in St. Lawrence County met yesterday to try to find a place to sell their milk. They'll reportedly seek an ownership share in Heritage Cheese House in Heuvelton. The cheese plant stopped taking milk from 95 Amish families Saturday. The company says low cheese prices have made the business unprofitable. The Watertown Daily Times reports this morning that the 71 Amish farmers who met yesterday were unanimous in their decision to form a trust to work with the plant. Jul 06, 2006 — The StoryCorps mobile booth pulled into Canton this week. NCPR is hosting StoryCorps' visit to the North Country. It's a national initiative to document everyday history and stories of Americans. Interviews will be recorded for broadcast on public radio and for the Library of Congress. The StoryCorps mobile booth will be in Canton on the Village Green during the first two weeks of July. The booth then moves to the Flower Memorial Library in Watertown.
