Sex offender facility holds an open house

New York's Senate and Assembly agreed this week on a law allowing civil confinement of sexually violent predators. The bill has been sent to Gov. Eliot Spitzer. The law would give the state attorney general responsibility for seeking further confinement of sex offenders at the end of their prison terms. A panel of mental health professionals would review each case. The details include treatment and annual reviews, as well as security and tougher parole standards. Up to 80 of these sex offenders will spend their confinement in a newly remodeled facility in Ogdensburg. The building offered public tours last weekend. A tale of two zamboni drivers

It's a dream weekend for North Country hockey fans. The Canton Golden Bears high school team plays in the state semifinal tomorrow in Utica. The St. Lawrence University women's team is fighting for a berth in the NCAA Frozen Four in New Hampshire. And for the first time since 2001, St. Lawrence and Clarkson are both hosting men's ECAC quarterfinal series starting tonight. Two of the most watched people at the rinks in Canton and Potsdam don't skate. They drive one of the most beloved icons of the North: the zamboni.
