Invasives destroying Great Lakes food chain

Although zebra mussels have been affecting the ecology of the Great Lakes since they were first found in 1988, researchers are continuously surprised at how much damage they've caused. Now, biologists are wondering if zebra mussels and the more recently arrived quagga mussels are to blame for a collapse of the fishery in one of North America's largest lakes. Rural living has its special moments. Sometimes the evening's entertainment just walks right in. Sometimes on four legs. As in cows. Then you get to know your neighbors better, explore the countryside, and even learn new skills.
David Sommerstein and his wife were making a late dinner one night last summer. Just as dusk was quickly fading to dark, two big heifers wandered in to enjoy the fresh, tender lawn. State looks for input on ?rooftop? highway

State officials hope to accelerate a plan for a rooftop highway with a series of public meetings across the North Country this week. The idea of a highway between Watertown and Plattsbrugh is more than 30 years old. Martha Foley has more.
