Is this really a biz plan for the North Country?

Last month Centerstate CEO, a Syracuse-based economic development group, released a plan for a region they call central New York. It stretches from the Finger Lakes to Massena and includes Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties. It doesn't include the Adirondacks or the Champlain Valley.

The plan was prepared by the Brookings Institution and identifies ways in the region can compete on a global scale. But some critics argue that the plan doesn't represent the western half of what we call the North Country.  Go to full article

How do you cope with that much snow?

The Tug Hill Plateau has gotten big snow this week, and it's still coming.

Carol Yerdon lives up there, in Redfield. In her backyard, Yerdon measured 49 inches of snow within 36 hours from lake-effect storms that began Tuesday, and 15 inches more overnight. That's a lot, even for the Tug Hill.  Go to full article

Parts of upstate NY getting lake-effect snow

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) More than a foot of snow has fallen in towns south of Buffalo and more is expected as sections of upstate New York get a wintry blast from lake-effect storms.

The National Weather says the storms that began Tuesday have dumped 14 inches in Perrysburg in Cattaraugus County and 12 inches in Cassadaga in neighboring Chautauqua County. Forecasters say another 4 to 8 inches is expected Wednesday in some southwestern areas of the state, with several more inches likely on Thursday.  Go to full article
