16th century music to welcome 2009

This past Sunday Hill and Hollow Music continued its year-long celebration of the Champlain Quadricentennial with a performance by the Chris Norman Ensemble. The sold-out concert at the Church in the Hollow in Saranac began with a 16th century English song that somehow seemed appropriate for this New Year's holiday.  Go to full article

UpNorth Music: Joe Mama Band

The Joe Mama band cares a lot about music, and about experimenting with different genres, but most of all they like to have fun when they're performing. Their 2007 CD release "Green Pepper Air Freshener" reflects the varied musical interests of the band members. Preview: ONNY?s ?Patriotic Pops? concert

This evening in Potsdam, the Orchestra of Northern New York will hold their annual celebration of Canada Day and the 4th of July with a concert of largely patriotic music. But the concert will also be the setting for the premiere of a piece that already has an interesting history, and it hasn't even been played for the public yet. Fingerstyle guitarist Neil Fitzgerald, of Potsdam, has crafted his style around intricate, percussive playing and alternate tunings. Last September, he showed up at his UpNorth Music recording session in Plattsburgh with a couple of beautiful custom-made guitars and demonstrated the sonic possibilities of his instrument.
