Before joining the Enterprise, Chris was the news director for Mountain Communications, which owns several Saranac Lake radio stations, for eight years. Chris works for North Country Public Radio as an occasional contributing reporter.Away from work, Chris enjoys hiking, skiing, kayaking and just about anything else in the outdoors. County Governments Oppose Mohawk Land Deal
Nov 19, 2004 — Legislators in Frankln County voted unanimously Thursday to oppose a land claims settlement between the state and the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe. County officials say a ten million dollars payment meant to offset the loss of taxes isn't big enough. New Power Line to Connect St. Lawrence County, Tri-Lakes
Nov 04, 2004 — Locals in Tupper Lake and Lake Placid hope to end electricity shortages by extending a power line from St. Lawrence County. State Senator Betty Little is supporting a plan that would build a new line from Newton Falls, down through Cranberry Lake, and on to Tupper Lake. As Chris Knight reports, organizers say more electricity would end black-outs that have plagued the area. They also say the line could boost economic development. Go to full article
Saranac Lake Man Charged in Infant Son's Death
Nov 01, 2004 — A 27-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder and assault in the death of his 15-day-old son. Officials say it's the first murder case in Saranac Lake in 17 years. Chris Knight reports. Go to full article
Spitzer Campaigns for Bassett in Saranac Lake
Oct 19, 2004 — New York State Attorney General Elliott Spitzer was in Saranac Lake Monday to endorse Democrat Bernie Bassett in his campaign against Republican Assemblyman Chris Ortloff of Plattsburgh. The endorsement was the latest by top Democrats in the state for Bassett, a retired principal from Morrisonville with no previous political experience. Chris Knight reports. Go to full article
Schumer Visits Adirondack Gov't Leaders
May 31, 2004 — Senator Chuck Schumer was in Lake Placid on Friday to outline a number of North Country issues at a government affairs breakfast. New York's senior senator discussed the economy, tourism, acid rain and rising fuel prices with leaders from across the region. Later, Schumer met with officials in Tupper Lake. Chris Knight reports. Volunteers Salvage Abandoned Home, Helping Family & Neighborhood
May 27, 2004 — We've been hearing this week about the shortage of affordable housing in the North Country. In many communities, local governments and activist groups are getting organized, looking for solutions. In the Tri-Lakes area, Adirondack Habitat for Humanity has launched an effort to salvage abandoned houses. As Chris Knight reports, it's a way for low-income families to buy their own home. Whiteface Plan Includes Day-Use Rental Cabins
May 14, 2004 — The Adirondack Park Agency is poised to approve a new plan for the ski area at Whiteface Mountain. The most controversial addition will be a series of rental day-use cabins. Art Devlin Remembered As Ambassador, Athlete
Apr 27, 2004 — A memorial service will be held in Lake Placid this morning for Art Devlin, a man described as the olympic village's greatest ambassador. Devlin was a two-time Olympian who helped bring the Winter Games back to the Adirondacks in 1980. He was 81 years old when he passed away last week. Chris Knight has this remembrance. Adirondack Towns Consider New County
Apr 14, 2004 — Local leaders in 10 Adirondack towns are thinking about breaking away to form their own county. It would include towns that are now part of Essex and Franklin counties. UV Disinfection of Lake Placid Wastewater Funded
Apr 06, 2004 — A sewage feud in the Adirondacks moved one step closer to resolution this week. Congressman John Sweeney says $1.4 million in federal money will go to upgrade Lake Placid's new sewage treatment plant. The money will be spent on an experimental system designed to disinfect wasterwater before it flows into the Chubb and the Ausable rivers.
