Sep 20, 2007 — In the spring of 2006, a series of billboards appeared along Rt. 81 near Syracuse, each featuring an enormous close-up of a young man's head on a plain dark surface. They were all soldiers, and the proximity to Fort Drum was no accident. Photographer Suzanne Opton told PRI's Studio 360 how she came to make the series of portraits she calls "Soldier."
