Edible schoolyard at Keene Central
Oct 08, 2007 — Fresh tomatoes, lettuce and even Swiss chard were part of the lunch menu last week at Keene Central School. The fresh veggies are from the Adirondack school's garden. What began as a composting program ten years ago has grown into a school-wide project that teaches youngsters the importance of healthy eating, gardening skills and the environment. Julie Holbrook, cafeteria manager at Keene Central School, and some of her students gave Todd Moe a garden tour last Friday. It was warm and sunny, and they started at the tomato patch.
