Feb 06, 2008 — NY Senator Hillary Clinton (D) and Arizona Senator John McCain (R) both seized victory in New York state by comfortable margins. Clinton's support was stronger in the North Country than in other parts of the state. In much of the region, her vote actually topped 70%, with Illinois Senator Barack Obama's best showing (39%) coming in Washington County. In many downstate counties, Clinton's support ran between 50-55%. McCain, meanwhile, captured roughly 50% of the North Country vote in a three-way contest with former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee. Those returns matched the statewide spread more closely.
