Mar 31, 2008 — There's news of one local detail in the state budget. Camp Gabriels, which had been slated for closure under a Spitzer administration plan to streamline the state prison system, will be funded in this year's state budget and will remain open. An aide to state Senator Betty Little tells the Plattsburgh Press Republican there's a commitment from new Gov. David Paterson that Camp Gabriels will be funded in the 2008-2009 state budget. At least 130 jobs are at stake. The Spitzer decision to close Camp Gabriels, near Paul Smiths, had prompted union rallies in January. Chris Knight has more.
