The joy of classic and comedic theater
Ottawa, ON, Jul 29, 2009 — NCPR's theater critic Connie Meng took in some of the plays this season at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. She also spoke with a favorite Canadian stage actor, Randy Hughson. He grew up in Kingston, Ontario, and played hockey and lacrosse while in high school. But he also hung a poster from the National Arts Centre in Ottawa on his bedroom wall. He did a play on a lark, and found performing so much fun that he studied acting at Ryerson University in Toronto. Connie spoke with him about working with Peter Hinton at the NAC in Ottawa on "Buried Child" earlier this year, and about his current productions, including playing Senex in the musical comedy, "A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum" at Stratford this season.
