(10/26/09) Over the weekend, President Obama declared the swine flu pandemic a national emergency. Administration officials described the declaration as a pre-emptive move that would speed treatment to thousands of people infected by the H1N1 virus. This includes circumventing federal regulations to quickly open over-flow medical centers. And hospitals can change patient rules in order to treat them faster. Across the North Country, health officials are seeing more cases of the flu--especially in schools. Efforts to contain the virus are hampered by a short supply of vaccine. Jonathan Brown reports.
