Home again: Potsdam artist comes full circle
Potsdam, NY, Apr 02, 2010 — Artist Matthew Rauscher grew up in Potsdam, earned a Fine Arts degree from SUNY Potsdam and soon found himself underemployed. He took a job at a local coffeehouse and often wondered, "What now?" He says it was fate that led him to graduate school at William Paterson University in New Jersey. A few years later, the 28-year old had two art degrees under his belt and entered the job market just as the economy fizzled. So did the plan to follow his heart to Alabama. Without a job, Rauscher moved back to his parents' house in Potsdam and began volunteering at Creative Spirit Community Art Center. Rauscher says the return to his roots has rekindled his creativity. His exhibit, Triumphant Return, opens at Creative Spirit next week. Todd Moe has more.
